Karyn’s Story

“I was clueless about breast cancer and felt very alone.”

After taking early retirement and merrily spending much time living in France, a breast cancer diagnosis hit me completely out of the blue. I’d always considered myself as tough and resilient, but upon diagnosis I fell to pieces completely. I was clueless about breast cancer and felt very alone.

Back in the UK with my husband and our two dogs, I was swiftly looked after by a wonderful surgeon and medical team. It was during this time that I was introduced to OBBG. The group transformed my mindset, from a terrified rabbit in the headlights trying to be brave, to feeling supported and definitely not alone.

After surgery, when life supposedly returned to “normal,” it felt anything but. OBBG became for me, and still is, a safe space where I can be honest, be myself, and feel truly understood by others who’ve been through it too.

I've met extraordinary women navigating all kinds of treatment and diagnosis experiences. This group brought something positive out of what has been one of the hardest periods of my life. Alongside new friendships, I’ve discovered the power of mindfulness, an invaluable tool I’ll carry forward for whatever comes next.

I’m so grateful to continue being part of this positive group of women. It’s not all breast cancer talk.  It’s also about feeling inspired by others and importantly, having some good laughs. Thanks OBBG – you’ve helped me get me confidence back, got me through the last 18 months and continue to do so.
