Jules’ Story
“One thing I wish people understood about cancer…”
My cancer journey began three and a half years ago. I’d initially gone for a routine mammogram and a few weeks later received an appointment for the Churchill Hospital and that’s when alarm bells started to ring. I suddenly found myself in a surreal situation having scans and biopsies and talks with breast care nurses. No matter how many times I was told I would be ok, my anxious brain was telling me otherwise.
I remember having markers put in my breast on the morning of my operation and having a plastic drinking cup taped over them. I was wheeled back to the ward looking like I was wearing Madonna’s bra! Thankfully my cancer was successfully removed by the wonderful Professor Roy, who also performed my LICAP reconstruction two weeks later. I’m happy to say that I’m now fully recovered.
One thing I wish people understood about cancer is how much it can affect you mentally as well as physically. Even if you look fine on the outside, it may not be how you feel on the inside. I’m so glad that I decided to join OBBG. I enjoy taking part in their Lend a Hand sessions, where I’ve met lots of lovely ladies, all happy to listen, share their own experiences and support each other. OBBG is there for everyone.
Thank you Professor Roy and thank you OBBG 💜
